Gone Fishin'

My now ten-year-old daughter and I went fishing this morning for the first time in...almost 4 years!
We had a great time! There's nothing better than an overstocked pond with lots of big catfish, where you don't have to sit around and wait hours before landing one...or several. : ) My daughter and I both caught 8 or so catfish and a couple of bass. My grandmother, mother and daddy all caught lots too! THEN, I, yes that's right, I cleaned those fish (after more than 20 years since my last lesson in the art) and cooked catfish for dinner.

My wonderful husband stayed home to care for our rowdy toddler, AND he cooked hush puppies to go with our fish! (I'd better tell on myself here: I've been calling them "hush 'em up puppies" all night!)

So, aside from the fact that our son is allergic to fish and said he didn't like the hush puppies, and our daughter didn't want to eat what she saw me clean (I can't really blame her), we had a nice dinner tonight of fried catfish, hush puppies and baked potatoes.

It made for a great field trip, too, though we did get some school in today. My daughter read aloud to me in the car on the way to our fishing spot and on the way back, and we still made it to our second class meeting of Introduction to Chinese Language and Culture (with toddler in tow, which was loads of fun).
