Confessions Blvd.
In attempting to keep with the theme of my blog, I am labeling this post "Confessions Blvd."
When we make an unintentional turn onto Confessions Blvd, we tend to learn or become aware of something new about ourselves. In order to find our way from Confessions Blvd back to Main Street, we must share this discovery with others, so here we go. : )
As a homeschool mom, I love the opportunity to learn. Yes, we've all heard that before. We are all glad that our children can have a better opportunity to learn in a homeschool environment than the alternative. My confession here is that I love MY opportunity to learn. Here are three ways I have the opportunity to learn from our homeschooling experience, though there are probably more:
1) I am learning from my children. Because I am with them all day, I can truly get to know them. No longer do I have only a few hours each day to spend with my daughter, so we are able to bond when we are not tired, hungry and ready for bed (although that still happens in a household with a toddler). My children also tend to ask questions or say things that really make me think! I get to learn more about their likes and dislikes, their quirks and special talents, and I thank God for the opportunity.
2) I am learning with my children. Not everyone gets to re-learn the things they learned in school. I know many people don't want to, but it's fun for me. Not only do I need to re-learn in order to teach well, but I also enjoy re-learning to test my own knowledge. I also like being able to grade papers without needing an answer sheet, though they do save time. : )
3) I am learning more with my children. When my children have the opportunity to learn extra subjects or more details in a particular area, I get to learn with them. It might sound terrible, but I would feel left out if I took her to a class and didn't get to at least watch. "We" are currently taking an Introduction to Chinese Language and Culture class, and it is just as new and fascinating to me as it is to her.
I learn so I can teach, but I am thankful for all the things I am learning. As we grow and learn together on this homeschool journey, my children and I will cherish this blessing God has given us.
