As I journey out of the driveway into light traffic and farther, I hope to share my story to help other homeschool moms, or at least give some of you experienced moms something to laugh about when you're having your coffee.
I have just experienced one of those moments when I felt like a grown-up! We've all had at least one of those times when we do something different, something "big" that brings us up to the next level, at least from our own perspective.
Today, after over a year of homeschooling, I went to BAM, requested an educator card, and bought my first physical curriculum-type books.
So far on our homeschooling journey, we have utilized several free online curriculum services, freebies and other resources. I have bought a few curriculum items from currclick.com (usually during a sale), and a friend gave us several workbooks that her family no longer used. We have been working on a very tight budget...we still are. While those resources are awesome on so many levels, they do require extra planning and research on the mom/teacher's part, and that's tough to do in a small house with a two-year-old.
I felt that we/I needed a book of some kind to help us with math. I also wanted to be sure we were covering the typical grade-level stuff in all subjects, and from the books/workbooks I flipped through today, we are. I purchased a math workbook and a general curriculum book. After I have perused them more carefully, I will share the titles.
On another note: I began a new scheduling routine today. I will admit that most days of this past year I have done my planning "on the fly." It barely got the job done. My bad habit of procrastination had rubbed off and was becoming a major problem. Today, I planned BEFORE lessons started, and we stuck to the schedule. If we didn't get more done today, then we at least finished before lunch! I think we did both. : )
I look forward to more new improvements as I FINALLY get organized and stick to my new schedule on Monday. Have a great weekend!
